Dentures

Tooth loss can have a profound impact on your daily life and overall self-esteem. But there is hope — dentures offer an effective and aesthetically pleasing solution for replacing missing teeth, allowing you to enjoy the simple pleasures of life with confidence once again.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They are custom-made to fit your mouth and can be used to replace some or all of your teeth.

Dentures help restore the function and appearance of your smile, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

What Types of Dentures Are Available?

There are several types of dentures available, each tailored to meet different needs:

  • Full Dentures: Also known as complete dentures, full dentures are used when all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw are missing. They consist of a full set of artificial teeth attached to a gum-coloured base that sits on your gums.
  • Partial Dentures: These are used when some natural teeth remain. They consist of artificial teeth attached to a metal or plastic framework that clips onto your natural teeth, filling in the gaps.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures: These dentures are anchored to dental implants for added stability and support. They provide a secure fit and prevent slipping, making them a popular choice for many patients.

Am I a Candidate For Dentures?

Most patients who have lost some or all of their teeth are suitable candidates for dentures. Dr Samuel will conduct a thorough examination and discuss your medical history to determine the best types of dentures for your needs.

Factors such as the health of your gums and jawbone, as well as your overall health, will be considered in making this decision.

What is the Process For Getting Dentures?

It will take several steps to complete your denture procedure:

  1. Initial Consultation: During your first visit, Dr Samuel will evaluate your oral health, discuss your goals, and take impressions of your mouth to create a custom treatment plan.
  2. Preparation: If you need extractions, these will be performed before your dentures are made. For immediate dentures, impressions will be taken before the extractions.
  3. Fitting: Once your gums have healed, Dr Samuel will take detailed impressions of your mouth to ensure a precise fit. The dentures will be custom-made in a dental laboratory.
  4. Adjustments: When your dentures are ready, Dr Samuel will fit them in your mouth and make any necessary adjustments to ensure comfort and proper function.

How Long Do Dentures Last?

With proper care, dentures can last many years. However, they may need to be adjusted, relined, or remade over time due to normal wear and changes in your mouth. Regular dental checkups at Blubird Dental will help ensure your dentures remain in good condition and fit properly.

What Can I Expect During the Adjustment Period?

It’s normal to experience some discomfort and difficulty speaking and eating when you first get your dentures. This adjustment period typically lasts a few weeks as your mouth adapts to the new appliance.

Dr Samuel will provide guidance on how to manage this transition and may schedule follow-up visits to make any necessary adjustments for a comfortable fit.
